Mr Bacon said: “It is always a pleasure to visit Costessey High School and I was honoured to be asked to open the new block. I was very impressed by the new classrooms and it is fitting that a specialist science college should have such cutting-edge technology available to its staff and students”. The official opening was coupled with an invitation for Mr Bacon to meet with Costessey High School’s AS Level Government and Politics class. Mr Bacon watched the students debate across the floor of a mock House of Commons, taking on the roles of government, opposition, backbench MPs and the speaker. Mr Bacon then answered students’ questions on how the House of Commons actually works, and on his life in Parliament. Mr Bacon added: “It is always reassuring to see young people so interested in politics and the political process and I was most impressed by the way the students captured the spirit of the House of Commons so vividly. I wish the group every success for the future”. 13 March 2007
