Following the announcement on Thursday 6 July 2006 that the Government has approved 13 transport schemes in the East of England, South Norfolk MP Richard Bacon has written to Transport Secretary Douglas Alexander to express disappointment that the A140 Long Stratton bypass was not included and has again been denied funding.

Mr Bacon said today: “It appears that the Government has constructed a set of criteria, based on ‘regional’ importance, which would exclude roads such as the A140 bypass at Long Stratton from ever being constructed”.

“The bypass is not of regional significance but it is enormously important locally. It is disappointing that the scheme has again failed to get financial support and I have asked the Secretary of State to explain under what criteria the A140 Long Stratton bypass, which is of huge local significance, would ever be considered for funding”.
