SOUTH NORFOLK MP Richard Bacon joined pupils, staff and parents at Little Melton First School to celebrate the school's Artsmark Gold award. Artsmark is a national award that recognises and rewards schools making an outstanding commitment to all art forms including music, drama and dance as well as art and design. |

Mr Bacon said: “The arts are an important and enjoyable part of a child's education but all too often they become the 'Cinderella' subjects due to lack of funds and school time. Artsmark is an excellent way to encourage schools to participate in a wide range of art forms”. The pupils celebrated their award with a performance of music, dance and drama. Mr Bacon was then invited to cut a special cake in honour of the school's achievement. Mr Bacon said: “After watching this impressive show and seeing the various artwork around the school I can fully understand why Little Melton First School has been awarded an Artsmark Gold. I congratulate headteacher Anne Clements for her ongoing commitment to teaching all art forms. I also congratulate her dedicated staff and the hard working pupils on winning this award”. 17 July 2005
