South Norfolk MP Richard Bacon and his wife
Victoria took part in Barnado’s “Make a Difference Day”, an
annual campaign organised by Community Service Volunteers (CVS)
to encourage people to discover how worthwhile volunteering can
be. Mr Bacon spent Saturday morning at Barnado’s in Mere Street, Diss serving at the till alongside Freda Howard, a volunteer with over 20 years experience in helping Barnado’s. Under the guidance of Shop Manager Kim Snelgrove, Mr Bacon also tried his hand with pressing clothes with a hand steamer. Mrs Bacon helped long-serving volunteer Pat King to sort and price children’s books. |

Money raised from Barnado’s in Diss goes towards funding the charity’s work. Barnado’s works with around 110,000 children, young people and their families in over 383 specialised projects in local communities across the UK to overcome urgent issues of poverty, homelessness, disability, bereavement and abuse. Mr Bacon said: “Victoria and I had a most
enjoyable time at Barnado’s in Diss and we now have a better
understanding of the hard work which goes into running a charity shop
such as Barnado’s. I congratulate Kim Snelgrove and her team of
volunteers for doing such an excellent job. I would urge anyone with a
bit of time to spare to consider volunteering for a worthwhile charity
such as Barnado’s.” 27 October 2007 |
