SOUTH NORFOLK MP Richard Bacon has called on high schools to take part in a scheme run by Hethel Engineering Centre to promote engineering as a career.

Mr Bacon said: “I am delighted that Hethel Engineering Centre is using its success to invest in the engineers of the future”. 
 

“The Centre’s ‘experience days’ look like great fun, and six high schools have already taken part. I would urge  more schools to check out what the Centre has to offer”.

“I congratulate Simon Coward and his team on their success and I am glad the future of British engineering is in such good hands”.

Mr Bacon was speaking after visiting the Centre, which stands close to the Group Lotus factory, near Wymondham.  Director Simon Coward, told Mr Bacon how Hethel Engineering  Centre has opened its doors to high schools across Norfolk, offering itself as a resource to design and technology teachers. 

The Centre runs ‘experience days’ as part of its ‘Pathways to Engineering’ program, which aims to increase awareness of the exciting opportunities in manufacturing and engineering.  School students can use the Centre’s cutting-edge equipment under the supervision of Engineering Manager Derek Hillyard, who showed Mr Bacon how it can be used to inspire budding young engineers.  Six schools have already attended the experience days and Hethel Engineering are developing new facilities to enable them to accommodate more students.
