Traffic jams in Long Stratton are a regular occurence
The Long Stratton bypass has been
given top priority by County Hall's
Planning and Transportation
Department

SOUTH NORFOLK MP Richard Bacon has written to Transport Secretary Alistair Darling to stress the importance of the Long Stratton by-pass and to ask when a decision on its funding is likely to be made.

Mr Bacon said: “Long Stratton is quite small and is completely unsuited to the high volume of traffic that currently runs through the village. The by-pass will bring huge benefits to Long Stratton and will improve the quality of life for local residents”.

“I am pleased that the A140 Long Stratton by-pass is the only Major Scheme submitted so far by County Hall in the current planning cycle. This shows that the project has been given the highest priority in Norfolk. However, we need reassurance that the government understands the significance of the project for local people”.

Mr Bacon added: “We have all been waiting far too long for work to start. The present position is bad for residents, bad for businesses and bad for commuters. Sometimes I fear that there is not enough understanding in Whitehall of the problems of Norfolk's infrastructure. This must be the only county in Britain where most of the main arterial routes need upgrading. It is high time that Norfolk stopped being the poor relation when it comes to improvements to our infrastructure”.
