SOUTH Norfolk MP Richard Bacon went on patrol with the Special Constabulary in Wymondham in support of the National Specials Weekend. Together with Special Chief Inspector Ray Lumley, Special Constable David Reed, and Special Sergeant Graham Gill, Mr Bacon toured the town centre and visited known trouble spots. as a deterrent to criminals and also provide reassurance to the law-abiding. By careful targeting of known offenders the level of local burglaries have been halved in the last two years. Mr Bacon then went to the outlying villages where anti-social behaviour is a common problem. This is mainly because there is little organised activity for youngsters. Car theft can also be troublesome in some areas but again a police presence has been helping in reducing the number of incidents. Mr Bacon said: “I have great admiration for the work of the Specials. All of them are volunteers and they give up their spare time, often after a hard working week, to support their colleagues in the regular police force”. See also:
