SOUTH NORFOLK MP Richard Bacon has met with scientists and senior managers at the Norwich Research Park for an update on the latest cutting-edge scientific research coming out of the institutes and companies based on the Park.
SOUTH NORFOLK MP Richard Bacon has met with scientists and senior managers at the Norwich Research Park for an update on the latest cutting-edge scientific research coming out of the institutes and companies based on the Park.
Mr Bacon, whose constituency includes the Norwich Research Park, toured the John Innes Centre, The Sainsbury Laboratory and The Genome Analysis Centre together with Professor Mike Bevan, Deputy Director of the John Innes Centre and Matthew Jones, the Norwich Research Park’s Chief Operating Officer. Mr Bacon rounded the tour off by meeting with Professor David Boxer, Director of the Institute of Food Research.
Mr Bacon said: “The Norwich Research Park is the cornerstone of a vision for a science and technology corridor embracing the institutes and organisations on the Park, University of East Anglia and the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, and stretching all the way to Cambridge.
“The Park has a reputation for world class scientific research and it has considerable potential to create more jobs and help to promote strong economic development in our region. The Park has a very bright future and I am looking forward to the next steps in this exciting project”.
Matthew Jones, Chief Operating Officer of Norwich Research Park said: “We are very pleased that Mr Bacon has been able to visit today and learn about some of the exciting research that is being carried out within Norwich Research Park’s partner institutes.
“Also, we are very grateful for the support that he has given to the Park development as we embark on the next stage of this exciting process of expanding the Research Park by attracting more commercial occupiers”.
South Norfolk Council recently approved plans for new laboratory and office space for business tenants. The Centrum building, which will also provide a “hub” for bringing academic and business staff together, is part of a £26m investment project to enable Park development including IT infrastructure, road improvements, support for the Norwich Research Park Enterprise Centre and access to facilities.
