RECYCLING is now top of the agenda in Norfolk, says local MP Richard Bacon, after visiting a new £6 million recycling plant opened at Old Costessey by Norfolk Environmental Waste Services (N.E.W.S.).

Richard was accompanied on the visit by local County Councillor Ron Johnson, who is a great champion of recycling and the county's board member at the plant.

The facility is one of the most advanced in Europe, using the
latest technology from the UK and USA to sort recyclable waste from the twin wheelie-bin scheme doorstep collections made by a number of local authorities, including South Norfolk District Council.

The scheme came in for a bit of opposition at first because rubbish needs to be sorted into normal and recyclable waste and cans need rinsing before putting them into the recycle bin but people are rapidly warming to the idea.

“N.E.W.S. also extracts the gas which is produced naturally in its landfill sites to make electricity. This is then channelled into the national grid, offering safe, renewable fuel which helps to offset the use of fossil fuels. Now, that's what I call recycling”.
