South Norfolk MP Richard Bacon has written to Post Office chiefs in support of Trowse Post Office, which faces the axe this summer. Mr Bacon took action after attending a rally outside the Trowse Post Office and stores.
Mr Bacon said: “I visited Trowse Post Office and saw first hand
how it provides an invaluable local service, both to Trowse
itself and also for residents living in neighbouring areas.”

“Given that Trowse is on the brink of expansion with a new business park, this seems a strange time to contemplate closing local amenities”. “Trowse Post Office is vital and should be maintained for the benefit of the local community”. Trowse Post Office and stores serve a large population of elderly and infirm residents, and provides a vital financial and retail function to residents of The Dell, a nearby sheltered accommodation unit. Mr Bacon believes that these factors make the suggested alternative Post Offices at Castle Mall in central Norwich and New Lakenham unacceptable. Mr Bacon wrote to Post Office bosses as part of a co-ordinated campaign with South Norfolk Council. The Council has already held two preliminary meetings with sub postmasters and mistresses to gather information on their businesses and help them understand the picture across the area. There is growing concern that village shops will become less viable if the post office trade ceases. 30 May 2008 See also:
