SOUTH Norfolk MP Richard Bacon saw how police in Wymondham are cutting crime and vandalism when he inspected their new CCTV installation in the town centre. The system was supported and paid for by a number of local businesses. Accompanied by Inspector Andy Taylor and Sergeant John Cuthbert, Mr Bacon was given a demonstration of the CCTV's capabilities by Jon Jarvis of First Connect, the company which installed the system. Two rotating cameras, which look like ornamental street lamps, and a fixed camera covers both Market Cross and Market Place. |

This system requires less police time to monitor since, unlike earlier CCTVs, there are no video tapes to change or store. Mr Bacon said: “The equipment is very easy to use and the images are extremely detailed and clear. I know the police are very pleased with the resulting reduction in crime and vandalism. I hope the police will soon be able to implement their plans to extend the system to other areas in Wymondham”.
