SOUTH NORFOLK MP Richard Bacon has written to the joint managers of the Norfolk and Waveney Cancer Network to ask for an update on their implementation of the NHS Cancer Plan, after a new report by the commons public accounts committee has found inconsistent implementation of the plan in England and Wales.
The report by MPs identifies that 30 per cent of cancer networks have no comprehensive plan to deliver local cancer services and 15 per cent have not monitored progress against the NHS Cancer Plan at all.
Mr Bacon said today: “One in three people will be diagnosed with some form of cancer in their lifetime. That may mean nearly 29,000 cancer patients in my constituency alone, over a lifetime, most of whom are likely to need the help of their local cancer network to fight the disease.
“Cancer patients may literally be fighting for their lives and they need to know that our local cancer services are operating properly. I have asked our local cancer network to inform me of their progress in implementing the NHS Cancer Plan and meeting its targets”.
