Commenting on the publication of the National Audit Office’s report into the preparations for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, South Norfolk MP Richard Bacon, a member of the Commons public accounts committee, said:
“It is good news that the 2012 London Olympics looks to be on track. All the venues for the Games should be delivered on time, although the completion of both the Aquatics Centre and parts of the Athletes’ Village look set to be a very close thing indeed.
“As preparations for the Games enter the final phase, the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) and the Government Olympic Executive will need to be extremely vigilant. Just under £1 billion of the £2.7 billion of contingency funding remains and there is no guarantee that this will be enough to meet every eventuality.
“The ODA must ensure all venues, particularly those with the tightest timeframes for delivery, do not slip any further and the Government must also make sure plans are in place to address any last minute crises that could blow what’s left of the contingency budget”.
